Just for a Minute

Okay, I'm going to whine and complain for just a minute. We considered getting a swing set for the boys for a couple of years and this year, we decided it was time and so we carefully chose a playset to build in the backyard. We put it up in June and the boys have loved it.

Today, the horrible wind picked up the playset (anything short of cement would not have kept it down), carried it 15 feet and and turned it upside down - it is in awful shape. Our homeowners insurance has a deductible that would be about the amount to replace it, so I think we will try to salvage it. But I'm disappointed and sad. It was something we budgeted for and wanted to do for the kids and seeing it in pieces in the backyard is so upsetting to me tonight.

All right, I'm done with the pity party - there are so many worse things to have happen and I have friends going through really tough things and I recognize this is rather trivial. I have a handy husband and I think he will be able to fix it but it will take time. We are all okay and the house is okay - I'm so thankful for that!

It's defintely ok to be sad about this! It's something you guys worked hard for both financially and in effort to put it up, and poof!, it's damaged. That makes me sad for you! Thank goodness it's the only thing damaged, but still... disappointing. I hope Andrew is able to fix it, or at least get it taken apart before winter settles in.

We've taken apart a playset exactly like this twice now (and put it back together), and my only advice before he does anything is to take a bazillion pictures. Take pictures of every angle, every corner, every connection point, birdseye view, worm's view- everything. It will make putting it back together again so much easier if he waits to do it until spring.

Sorry Alaina! This is a huge bummer.

Wow! That was some really intense winds you guys must've gotten. Yowzers! Glad nothing else was damaged though, but I understand your disappointment in having your playset broken.

It is TOTALLY okay to whine about it, I would be so upset too. I am upset FOR you. I know exactly how it is to work your butt off budgeting for something. Praying the Andrew is able to fix it.

That made me so sad when I read that on facebook last night, and the pictures make me really sad! We have that same swingset and I know how much Morgan loves it. I hope Andrew is able to fix it. I am sure he will have three apprentice carpenters out with him while he does! And don't feel down about throwing a pity party, you are totally allowed!

Oh Alaina,

I am so so sorry and yes you have every right to feel sad and disappointed! You and Andrew worked so hard to budget for the play set for the boys and not only does it cost a lot it is very HARD work putting those play sets together! I hope and pray Andrew can re- build it.

Thinking of you and sending positive vibes to re-build your play set.

Wow, I had forgotten this last night or would have asked. This really is terrible. POOR GUYS!
My thought for disassembling is to take a note from the people who disassemble and reassemble oldey timey buildings, too -- mark all the joints carefully. Since hte storm was at the end of "play season" and not the beginning, hopefully there will be plenty of fixing-time this winter. :( I really feel for you; I would be just sick over it.

P.S. Adam says, "They should get a new one, made out of ARMOR." They feel really bad for you guys too.

Oh. . . my. . . goodness! I fully understand the excitement that comes with planning and saving for a big ticket item. I am so sorry! Maybe we could have a community swing set raising?
