Kitchen Stuff...

One of my favorite hobbies is reading cookbooks and cooking magazines, trying new recipes, and making up my own new recipes. [Side note: I don't like to do the resulting dishes.] I love Pampered Chef products and enjoyed having a party last week - I can't wait to try out my new kitchen "stuff."

To make room for my new things, I decided it was time to clean out the old things I'm not using (cleaning out once in 5 years is good, right?!). It helps that one of my little sisters is starting her own home so it all went to a good cause. I tried to be brutal but wasn't. When it comes to the kitchen - I just can't part with things. I collect dishes and I'm fairly sure my husband thinks I collect pretty much everything else, too. Oh well, he really doesn't complain.

The one area of the kitchen I have avoided (so far) is the tupperware cabinet. Does anyone else have trouble with their "plastics" cupboard? I can't stand it...mismatched lids and containers with chaos as the prevailing standard. I have tried and tried to make this cabinet workable but it doesn't last long. I am at a loss...

Plastic ware is such a tough thing to keep together! I hate hate hate going into the cabinet and not finding the size container I need, or, if I do find it, not being able to find the top that goes to it.

I did clean out our tupperware (well, tupperware-TYPE, we don't have much actual tupperware) cabinet a while ago, and threw out everything that didn't have a matching lid. Then I stacked things inside each other - a stack of round things biggest to smallest (with smallest inside biggest), a stack of square things, a stack of tall round containers, and a stack of those rectangle lunch box size containers in varying sizes. Then I put all the round lids with the round stuff, the square lids with the square stuff, etc, each type of lid in one box.

The problem is, after a few weeks of unloading the dishwasher, the system starts to fall apart again, so every few weeks I go back in and set it all up again. It's kind of annoying, but much less annoying than having to hunt through the entire cabinet to find what I'm looking for!!!!!

I HATED organizing the tupper ware cabinet when I was growing up...

I've always had problems with keeping the Tupperware drawer organized. And the problem got exponentially worse when that became the one drawer Meredith is allowed to play in. I try as best as I can to keep all the lids on a separate box and keep the rest of the containers stacked. But I'm not usually very successful. :)

I have ^her problem :)... that is "Kathryn's drawer". So naturally, it is a disaster. Instead of trying to keep it clean, I buy the Ziploc cheapo tuperware when I find it on sale for $1 or so, that way I don't feel bad if I lose a lid :).

I am soooo bad about collecting dishes!!! I have four different "sets" besides all the special dessert dishes, cute plates I find at garage sales, etc. It is *almost* an addiction for me, and it drives Brad crazy :).
