The Report

We left at 5:15 a.m. and made it home around 8:30 p.m. We are SO tired. Good news - Calvin is doing well with the repair and making good progress on his speech. Bad news - he needs tubes. This is no surprise but I hoped that his ears were better. He does not have trouble with ear infections so it's hard for us to know what's going on. He will probably get the tubes in the next month or two - as soon as they give us the surgery date. We are hopeful that it will help with his speech development. Other than that, unless there are problems with speech down the road, he won't have plastic surgery again until he is somewhere in the 7-10 years range. We will have another team evaluation in 8-9 months.

Have we mentioned how incredibly thankful we are for the Shriner's hospital?! They have amazing staff and have just done a great job with Calvin. They treat the kids like royalty - giving them gifts and stickers and showing so much interest in them as individuals. It's really fantastic! We have been so blessed.

So that's the report here. Calvin kept talking about a lot of doctors and wanting to find more - he saw 8-10 different professionals. :) Well, I'm off to crash for the night and spend some time with my youngest son who is still awake. We have another early morning tomorrow. It's been a busy week and I'll admit that the weekend can't come soon enough. :)

Sounds like overall a great report. Hope you got some sleep!

Did Patrick enjoy the party? How many brownies did you eat?!

Glad things went well! Sorry about the tubes. I hope that will go smoothly though, and perhaps be of help.

Glad to hear that things seem to be going well... No more plastic surgery for four to six years sounds like a pretty good report!

My uncle who passed away a few years ago was very involved with Shriner's hosp., providing transportation and such. I'm glad I know someone who's getting good support from them.

Wow, I am so glad that you have received such great care at Shriners. It is nice that they recognize Calvin as a little boy and not just another patient. He is so adorable. I will continue to pray for his ears, as I know this can be a source of pain, trouble with balance, and effect his speech development. Will Shriner's cover the tubes as well, or will you pursue that treatment locally? Hope you enjoyed your gourment meal- it sounded delicious :)
