Celebrating Independence Day!

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend! I realize the older I get just how much I appreciate our country - the freedom, the history, and most of all the amazing men and women who protect us. It makes me swell with pride and it makes my eyes a little teary.

Anyway, back to the weekend. Friday morning we headed to the parade despite the chilly, overcast day. It was worth it. The boys had a wonderful time and it only rained a little. :) They thought that picking up candy was the best and they also really, really enjoyed all the different vehicles. We met up with our friends and neighbors and several of their friends, too! The kids were all pretty close in age which was fun for them and cute to see them sharing their candy.

We decided to enjoy a late brunch/early lunch at one of our favorite local breakfast places. Then we headed home for naps. :) Andrew and I worked hard to get the picnic together for the evening while the boys slept. We met up with Andrew's parents (Grandpa & Grandma F.) and went to a local living history museum and toured it for a little while. Afterwards we took them to an outdoor patriotic symphony performance and picnic. The evening finished with awesome fireworks and then a jazz ensemble. Here are a few pictures from the evening:

Patrick took the picture of Andrew and me. :) Saturday and Sunday where filled with lots of family time. We thoroughly enjoyed it! It was hard to have the weekend be over but we started the week with visiting friends from out of town. It was great! How was your 4th/weekend?

Looks like you had a really fun day. I love the cake. Great idea and it doesn't look too hard to do: just strawberries and blueberries. We just took it easy. In our town, it gets crazy jam packed with tourists on the 4th, so we like to stick close to home. I'm sure when Hannah gets older we will have to brave the crowds and go see the fireworks.

Looks like you have a budding photographer on your hands! Your family is gorgeous, and the one picture of the 4 of you is awesome. You truly look happy. I liked the flag cookie as well. We skipped out on fireworks and parades this year since Morgan is 2 and appears to be in full toddler-tantrum mode. We just spent the day at home and enjoyed the last few days of our visit with my parents.

You should have put "visiting friends at the crack of dawn".

Yes, it was great to see you all for a short time. Thanks for being flexible.
