Menu Planning

I am absolutely struggling with menu planning. I feel uninspired and apathetic about food. Is it a summer thing? A busy-ness thing? A temporary rut? I'm trying, really I am, but a menu plan I used to have done in 20 minutes is taking me 2 hours. Exhaustion? Boredom? I'm not really sure but I'm desperate to get back in the groove. It will help with the dinner time blues, the budget, and time management.

Any tips? Any great new recipes I should try? I'm sure I'll get excited about cooking again but for now I'm plowing through - one meal at a time, one dish at a time. Perhaps I should plan a cookout or dinner party. I do love to entertain and haven't had a chance to do much lately - it might do me some good! Hmm...

I just started with e-mealz and I LOVE it!!! The meals I have made so far are so delicious and easy. I had never heard of them before but I highly recommend checking into it!!

Look through your favorite food magazines. Check out some new food blogs. Flip through cook books. Think back to your favorite meals growing up.
These are all things I've done to help get back in the groove of menu planning. So many people try new recipies to change things up and get uninspired, but sometimes going back to the old tried and true is less exhausting and will reignite the passion for cooking.

I was feeling that way too, but came across this wonderful book that is reinvigorating me. "Don't Panic- Dinner's in the Freezer."

The receipes can be made right then and there, or they can be put together and then frozen, then prepared later (very few "cook it, then freeze it" which often messes with the texture).

I think the reason I'm so excited is because it saves time during the busy summer times, it removes a lot of the prep work during the every day, but yet there is still some preparation- it's not like I'm just thawing a pre-cooked meal and throwing sludge on the table.

The recipes look pretty decent too- not a lot of junk in most of them too.

Hope you get your groove back!

We are right there with you. I made pancakes three times for dinner this week! Maybe after this week everything will settle down and be easier to plan. YOu should check out the farmer's market for what is yummy fresh right now and see if it inspires you.
