Conversations

Here are some recent conversations with our preschoolers.

P to Me: Hello, Buddy (laughs)...You're not buddy, you're Alaina.

Me: I'm Mommy! :)

P: No, you're Alaina. (more laughing)

Me: Well, I'm Alaina and Mommy.

P: Yeah. (big smile)

P: Why is Ty in bed with you?

Me: He just wanted to cuddle this morning just like you sometimes need cuddles.

P: Yes, always.

Me: :) (I hugged him close)

Calvin and I were discussing our upcoming Gotcha/Adoption Day.

Me: This Saturday is adoption day. What do you think we should do?

C: (Ignores my question :)) Kazakhstan? (not quite so clear but suprisingly understandable).

Me: Yes, when Mommy and Daddy went to Kazakhstan and brought you home.

C: Yeah. THANK YOU, Mommy. (very dramatic w/screech included)

My heart swelled with joy. Adoption is an open, ongoing conversation in our home and while I know the boys don't fully understand, they often express happiness, gratitude and excitement whenver we discuss their story. :) It is our goal for them to always know they can discuss the beautiful way they entered our family and ask any questions. We know it's just another way families are built - not second best - just different and we want them to always understand that! Man, I love all of my boys! :)

how adorable! i especially love calvin's thank you! :) I think it's so great that you all talk about adoption with the boys as something extremely special -- and celebrate it too.

I sure do love Calvin's response. He is a happy boy and loves having a Mommy and Daddy. Patrick's conversation with you was so cute. I think he might be a bit of a tease. They are such "special little boys."

Love you,
Grandma Judd
