Aren't the glasses a great touch? I've worn glasses since I was 8 and I remember feeling embarassed that I needed them at all - no wonder. :) This picture is not of the party - I couldn't find any of it but it is the yellow outfit and it is clearly my birthday. The cake is a paint palate decorated with m&ms - I really liked art and my parents even gave me art classes for a gift. That clearly didn't pay off - oh well. :)
The giveaway for this Thursday is 3 re-useable bags from Trader Joe's! I not only really like that store but I'm also a little crunchy. :) If only I could remember to consistently bring my re-useable bags to the stores - I'm working on it! These bags are great for so many uses - picnics, shopping, travelling... And they are definitely eco-friendly. I seriously can't even tell you how many ways I use my bags!
You are all eligible to enter! Just leave a comment with something green you do (or plan to do), what you use your re-useable bags for, or whatever you like (again, a simple 'pick me' will not work).
Just for a reminder, here are the rules (clarified a little):
1) 1 entry per person per giveaway - you do not have to live locally or even know me personally for any of the prizes (I will cover all shipping costs).
2) You can enter all drawings for the week - just leave a comment with the specified guidelines on each giveaway post.
3) Make sure I have a way to contact you if you are the winner (winners will be chosen randomly unless otherwise noted).
I will draw winners for all giveaways next Wednesday, June 3 and contact the winners via e-mail and list them here on the blog. And I'll try to get everything in the mail or delivered within the week. Thanks for joining in my birthday celebration!

I would use my green bags to go to Aldi's. I do not buy their bags. I carry everything in piece by piece. Imagine how these bags would help such an old lady such as me.
I actually feel like a bag lady. My black bag has my teaching supplies. My red bag has my things for working at the bank and my white bag is for church stuff. But, oh - none of them is as nice looking as Trader Joe's.
I imagine if I enter every day, I might win something. ;)
I have a pile of paper grocery sacks that I take when I go to the grocery store to reuse. Some of them have been used a zillion times! When they get torn up, they go in our recycling bin as liners.
I also have reusable totes for JoAnn fabrics (my favorite place) and Half-Price Books (my other favorite) and when I remember, I try to take a large tote bag to other stores, too.
Alaina, I love the glasses. When I was little alot of my friends had them and I wanted them too. I would use the bags for grocery shopping, instead of my white meijer bags.
I have a few of those bags for our local grocery store and I love them! I use them for lots of things. Unfortunately the last few times I've gone to the store I have had my husband's car (the bags are in the trunk of my car). So far this season, I have tried to go as long as possible without turning on the air conditioning. I have kept my windows open, shades drawn if the sun makes a room hot and kept my baking to a minimum. I did have to give in last night. It was almost 90 in our house when we went to bed and my pregnant body would not allow sleep in those conditions! But I'm trying!
Is that your house in Lincoln? I remember that place! Love ya darling. Glad you get to do 30 before I do [insert evil laughter!!]
Okay, this may be a weird way of being "green," but... I breastfeed! :) No bottles, no use of water to wash bottles, no empty cannisters in the trash, etc. :)
I use those bags the most for trips in the car-- perfect for travel size toys and books!
In an effort to be selfishly green, my husband recycles aluminum cans for golfing money, to which I donate about 5-6 a day due to my insane addiction to soda. I have a few reusable bags, and use them for just about everything. You can get more stuff in those things that it appears!
Happy Thursday Birthday Week! One if the little things I do. . . is save my plastic bags when I get them and re-use them as bathroom trashbags. :-)
I also reuse all my plastic bags and use them for coffee grounds, wastebasket liners and even take my lunch to work in them. I have also started refilling water bottles and put them in the fridge as I have discovered it's not that we love bottled water, but we are soooo lazy we love the convenience.
Oh Alaina, I look atrocious in that picture! How could you? :)
I use re-usable bags all of the time! Mostly for groceries (I conveniently keep the bags in my backseat so I won't forget them). I also love the Trader's Joes bag I have and would love some more!
I also have a little trouble remembering to bring my bags with me... but I'm trying. I just planted my garden yesterday (most of it) so that will hopefully yield some veggies (though I'm not sure how "green" it will be when you consider all of the packaging/top soil/etc. we had to use). I do recycle and I am going to try making a compost bin this summer (to help cut down on the need for the aforementioned top soil)!
I think the beads are an excellent touch:)
We recycle and I use my reusable nags for the grocery store. (when I remember to take them inside)
I use any plastic bags I accumulate for trashcan liners and for collecting donations for Goodwill. Plus or family recycles.
we recycle and we use reusable bags for shopping when we remember them. any plastic bags we accumulate are re-used for trash etc.
that photo you posted is highly questionable for a number of reasons... these things should probably go through some sort of family approval system.:)
Cute photo!
We're doing several things to be more "green" - one is to recycle trash items. We keep a seperate bag in our kitchen for #1 & 2 plastics, glass, metal cans, and newspaper/magazines. Every two weeks we set our big 96 gal recycle bin on the curb to be picked up by the city. It's helped reduce our trash (we also compost all veg/fruit food scraps, along with egg shells, and coffee & tea grounds).
I started wearing glasses around 8 too! Although I was excited to get them(what was I thinking?!). :)
Reusable bags~ I use me for the groceries, library, picnics...I use mine all the time! Love my bags! :)
you are so awesome. When I grow up I want to be just like you. I cannot believe you are turning 30. You have always been mature beyond your years... Don't worry, since you will be officially an adult (that's how I felt) you are allowed to slack some or do things differently because you now have "PERSPECTIVE". I have been too busy to read this.. I love the post about keeping your thoughts to yourself. I have complete understanding - I feel that way too & yet I share a lot :-) Learning to share less as I age. Again... you are my idol. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I remember that one. I think it only gets better.
Brian and I were trying to figure out who everyone was in the picture. It looks like Stephanie is holding Margaret, but who is on the other side of you? We recycle and I have started using alternatives to bathroom cleaners, etc.
Hey Meg - Yes, definitely Lincoln. :) I'll let you know how 30 is...or rather, 29 and 18 months. :)
Hey Raendra - It's a friend. :) Liz is in the baseball hat and Elliot beside her and Steph & Margaret you got right! :)
We recycle, give stuff away to Goodwill and use our own bags at the store. We are also growing our own garden this year as well.

I've planted a large garden this year, so I'll hopefully have fewer groceries to carry (from store to car to house) this summer. Reusable grocery bags would mean I could be free of most plastic shopping bags for a very long time, and that would make me a happy, happy girl.
