And So It Begins

I'm committed to getting things more organized and de-junked. I do not have illusions of it being an easy process nor that it will be a one time activity. I know it will take a lot of work to maintain and I know that I'm going to spend A LOT of time working through each room, closet, drawer etc. We've been in our house for 6 years and added a dog and three children during those years - the accumulation is evidence of that.

It will be worth it. It will be ongoing. It's easy for me to get discouraged and give up - especially since it is way more important to me than anyone else in my house. :) However, as with every fresh year, I want this goal to be met. It's on my list every year and some progress is made every year but it often feels that we go backward more than forward. Sigh.

So today, I'm starting on the master bedroom which, sadly, tends to be the catch-all. I can't stand it - it should be a place of peace and retreat and it has been in the past. I fully intend to restore it to it's former peacefulness. It seems a good place to start because it also does much to build and encourage our marriage when we have a quiet place of retreat.

I'm overwhelmed yet excited. I'm discouraged yet hopeful. I'm weary yet determined.

Where does all the stuff come from?? My kids are grown and I still cannot seem to get rid of the clutter. (Maybe because when they left home, they left me with a lot of their STUFF). I am like you - determined to get organized this year.!! ( I did buy "huggable hangers" from HSN and they did help me get my closted organized)

We are in the same exact boat! We have lived in our small starter house for almost eight years and also added two kids and a dog. It is essential we declutter on a daily basis or I have major anxiety attacks on my family! My husband lovingly reminds me that I "bring it in one bag at a time!"

Keep us posted on your progress!

I realate SO much with this! I have recently done the Life Focus materials with a personal coach and my big goal is - believe it or not - decluttering and organizing my whole house during this next year-and-a-half. It's not easy b/c our house is fairly small and I'm a natural "clutterer" and saver, but I know I need this home to offer peace and relaxation when i enter it, NOT "Oh crap, this place is a mess and i'm overwhelmed already." So I wish you the best. I can only imagine the challenge with THREE kids. ;-]

Decluttering and planning for more efficient meals are two of my biggest challenges. Once again you have inspired me - I hope to gain more insight from reading through your posts as you move forward with your own goals. Happy new year!
