Date Night In

My husband and I struggle to actually have date nights. Between schedules, sitters, and cost, it's just tough but we know it's important!

So last night, we decided to feed the boys and play with them for a little while before putting them to bed. While Andrew started to get them ready for bed, I began our dinner (grilled chicken, sweet potatoes and green beans, salad, and cheesecake w/strawberries). After tucking the boys in, we enjoyed a leisurely semi-gourmet dinner with uninterrupted conversation out on the deck. We finished the evening with a new movie.

So we had dinner and a movie without ever leaving - it was wonderful and cheap! We felt as relaxed and rested (if not more so!) as when we go out. We are going to *try* and do this more often! It totally works for me! For more ideas visit Rocks in My Dryer.

We do this almost every Saturday night! Sometimes we do carryout, and sometimes we cook dinner together.

I'm SO glad you have date night - I think it's a MUST for EVERY marriage :) Can you see I'm passionate about it?

Congratualtions on your date!!! Sounds like fun. We swap babysitting with a friend of mine. She comes and watches my kids one night a month, and I do the same for her. That way we are getting at least one date a month in...for free!

Good job! I know how hard it is to find time and money to have a "typical" date. Sometimes the unconventional ones are even better!

This is a great reminder that a night in can do just as much good as a night out!

Every once in a while I will get some nice (ahem - expensive) steaks at the store and we will have a nice meal at home. It is still much cheaper than a restaurant meal but it gives us the feel of splurging on something out of the ordinary.

Maybe I need to plan a night like this for next week... Thanks for sharing!

My favorite is to do fondue after the kids go to bed on a Friday night and then to set out breakfast and a DVD for the kids to watch in the morning while we sleep in (until 8am:)

That sounds like a great idea. I'm going to try it too!
