I'm Just Wondering...

What do you wish you were brave enough to try?
And what is something you've tried that you thought you never would?

For me, the answer to the 1st is parasailing. I think it would be awesome if I could get past the slight fear of heights and the greater fear of the ropes breaking. Maybe one of these days...it has to be gorgeous to fly like that.

I'm sure I have lots of answers to the 2nd question but two things come to mind so I'll share both. The first is raw oysters (which I discovered I'm allergic to) and various other raw fish. For the record, the only thing I've really liked in that category is ahi tuna.

The other thing is flying in a 5 seater airplane over the ocean to the Bahamas (we were going on a small mission trip). I would NEVER choose to do that again. I was terrified as we were being tossed like a toy by the wind - especially on the return trip. Really, it was scary! The plane was sooo tiny and we could see out all windows. I was horrifed to learn a few weeks later about a similar plane, similar route going down. [Just as a random side note, customs on the island we flew to was in a trailer at the "local airport" which was only one runway in the midst of vegetation.]

Anyway, I'm just wondering what your answers would be!

I wish I was brave enough to try bungee jumping and something I've already done would have to be adoption. It sounds funny, but I was scared to death of the whole process.

I can't think of anything that I'm too scared to try... maybe selling most of my belongings and joining peace corps. But that is really more of a selfish choice than a fear... I have done quite a few of the "fear" things that people usually talk about (para-ponting, where you run off the side of a mountain, rock climbing, rapelling...) Maybe my fear would be sky-diving. I think the fear-falling would be amazing, but it would have to be a brave day for me to not really worry about that chute not opening...

I wish I was brave enough to write a book.

I'm glad I tried a lot of the things people are usually scared of back when I was young and stupid. For example, I went cliff diving in Spain when I was 16. Literally we just jumped off of these really steep craggy cliffs into the ocean below as the waves crashed onto the rocks. How idiotic is that, we could have been smashed to smithereens. But it was really exhilerating nonetheless.

I don't really care that I'm afraid to skydive or bungee jump. Is that wrong? :)

I just don't think I need to do that. I have gone parasailing. It's fun. I think one thing I would like to do but it sort of makes me squeamish is scuba diving. I think I have some claustrophobia issues. The other thing I wish I wasn't afraid to do is write for publication. I need to learn to deal with criticism better. :)

Moving to a foreign country is probably something I thought I would never do and did sort of fear. I resisted for a long time too. It was really hard, though looking back, I'm really glad I did it and I would fear it less the next time. If there is a next time.

I wish I was brave enough to try skydiving but I will never be, I hate flying and I hate heights so nope, not for me. :)

I lived in Kaz with just my two sons for 1 week and I never thought I would be able to get through it. 1 week doesn't seem long but you know Kaz, it was very long!

I wish I were brave enough to start my own business.

I think going to the top of the Eifel Tower would be the thing I have tried that I never thought I would. I am INSANELY afraid of heights. I won't even go near the windows in hotel rooms higher than the 3rd floor. But I did go to the top of the tower, and went to the edge to look out, just for something like 3 seconds, but I did it!
